Wrestlers to fight for kids
The second annual Slam for Smiles — a wrestling show for a good
cause — will be 7 p.m. Saturday in the National Guard Armory on Highway 69 in Good Hope.
Southeastern Championship
Wrestling Events Director Bobby Norris said, "This will be our second event, and we’re all looking forward to it. Last
year we only had two weeks’ advance notice and a lot of people in the community didn’t know about it."
The
wrestlers are all regional, according to Norris, and enjoy this event more than paid competition.
"The wrestlers don’t
make any money on this. All proceeds go to Christmas Love and Cullman Caring for Kids," he said.
He said he wanted
to thank the National Guard Armory for allowing the event to be held in the building without paying a fee. "If it wasn’t
for that, we couldn’t have this," he said.
The show is sponsored by Southeastern Championship Wrestling and will
include seven basic tag-team matches, door prizes, food and improvised audience participation.
Santa Claus will make
an appearance for the children, along with the wrestling entertainment for adults.
Norris also said he’d like
to thank Warehouse Discount Groceries for allowing solicitations on their premises two weeks prior to the event. "It’s
all to help raise funds for these two worthwhile organizations and help the community."
Executive Director of Cullman
Caring for Kids, Javon Daniel, said, "We really appreciate what Southeastern Championship Wrestling is doing for us. Everyone
associated with this fundraiser, especially the wrestlers, have our thanks."
"It’s going to be a fun event and
I hope to be there and enjoy the entertainment," Daniel’s said.
